Odyssey-The beginning

This is a first for me a space scene.So i thought id tell a story with it in the hope it inspires a series of paintings. Its based on Homer's Odyssey set in space with a twist of my own A greek based civilisation (hence the helmet tie in) who's sun is dieing, ice is taking over their home world so to keep their race alive they take to the stars in the first of many colony ships seeking a new world. The first of these ships is leaving in the picture, The Penelope. You can also see two of her sister ships the Argo and the Aristeia in the background.The series will be about her journey.

The very talented Qmza for many things .The inspiration and desire after seeing his work to try a space scene in the first place and for the use of his available resourses. The planet and moon are available from his page " frozen planet" they are called, i did a colour change for the moon. The nebula was the result of a tutorial written by Qzma. The ships were heavily influenced by Homeworld, Babylon 5, and a few other sci-fi films and games ans our own worlds battleships...I love the long thin look with big gun turrets .
